About the Project

Carver County has partnered with SouthWest Transit (SWT) to identify where transit can support Carver County’s growing mobility needs. This study will guide the development of service concepts that align with community priorities, existing travel patterns, and long-range planning goals.

Objectives

  • Assess current mobility needs and gaps within Carver County
  • Identify and evaluate feasible transportation service options informed by public feedback, demographic and socio-economic context, and access needs
  • Support 2026 grant application process for transit expansion

Timeline

Current Carver County Transit Service Options

SouthWest Transit

  • SW Transit (Bus Routes): Fixed routes that connect you to downtown Minneapolis, the University of Minnesota, Mall of America, MSP Airport, and other key destinations along the I-494 corridor through the 686 route.
    • Routes 600, 686, 695, 698
    • Park & Ride Locations:
      • SouthWest Station – Eden Prairie
      • SouthWest Village – Chanhassen
      • East Creek Transit Station – Chaska
      • Carver Station – Carver
  • SW Prime (On-demand Rideshare): On-demand rideshare services commonly used for grocery trips, non-emergency medical appointments, meeting up with friends, and more.
    • Primary Service Areas: Eden Prairie, Chanhassen, Chaska, Carver, and Victoria with pick up or drop off services available
    • To/From Services Only: Edina, Shakopee, Normandale College, and select clinics (including Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia)
  • SW Shuttle (Special Events): Park & Ride service from various stations to special events in the Twin Cities, including games (ex. Vikings), concerts, fairs (ex. MN State Fair), and festivals (ex. MN Yacht Club).
    • Park & Ride Locations:
      • SouthWest Station – Eden Prairie
      • SouthWest Village – Chanhassen
      • East Creek Transit Station – Chaska
      • Carver Station – Carver (MN State Fair & RenFest Only)

TransitLink & SmartLink

The Metropolitan Council provides TransitLink and SmartLink dial-a-ride connections to local destinations and medical appointments not able to be reached by regular route service options.

  • Service Area: Transit Link operates anywhere where regular route transit is infrequent or unavailable in Carver County and throughout the seven-country metro areas. It also provides a circulator in Norwood Young America and Waconia to key destinations during specific hours. For a map of the service area, visit the Metropolitan Council website.
