Prime Dispatch and Dispatch Supervisor 

SouthWest Transit, an award-winning public Transit Agency serving the cities of Eden Prairie, Chanhassen and Chaska is seeking to fill two dispatch positions located at our Eden Prairie Maintenance Facility. 

Prime Dispatch

Job Summary:

Ensure proper and efficient routing of the Prime general-public dial-a-ride in all conditions.  This is done through advanced and real-time planning and decision-making, maintaining continuous communications with Prime drivers, operations manager, and vehicle maintenance staff to ensure proper procedures are followed.  Directs appropriate communication and assistance to solve traffic, weather, mechanical, passengers and emergency issues.  This position requires a split shift schedule (6:30 am to 10:00 am and again 2:00 pm to 6:30 pm)

Scope of Responsibilities:

Assists in developing and applies standard operating rules and procedures in support of Prime operations with management guidance and in conjunction with all other Agency departments.  Provides coordination to as many as 25 drivers and mechanics.  Assists in the selection of personnel and schedules continuous Dispatch coverage for all Agency operating hours.  Provides functional reports to senior management and makes recommendations on operation , planning and customer service and emergency management issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receives reservations, schedules and monitors all Prime trips to ensure proper operation and on-time performance using the SWT scheduling and routing software (currently RideCell).
  • Reviews ridership and fare collection revenue manual and electronic input documents for accuracy, trends, and potential operational issues.
  • Supports the Customer Service team in providing key operational information.

Dispatch Supervisor

Job Summary:

Ensure proper express and prime route operation in all conditions.  This is done through advance and real-time planning and decision-making, maintaining continuous communications with drivers, street supervisors, the operation manager, and maintenance staff to ensure proper procedures are followed.  Directs appropriate communication and assistance to solve traffic, weather, mechanical, passenger, and emergency issues.

Scope of Responsibility:

Assists in developing and applies standard operating rules and procedures in support of operations with management guidance and in conjunction with all other Agency departments.  Provides coordination to as many as 50 drivers and 3 Street Supervisors at a time and Mechanics.  Assists in the selection of Dispatch personnel and schedules continuous Dispatch coverage for all Agency operating hours. Provides functional reports to senior management and makes recommendations on operational, planning, customer service and emergency management issues.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitors all scheduled transit trips to ensure proper operation and on-time performance through the use of the SWT AVL system and tools.
  • Reviews ridership and fare collection revenue manual and electronic input documents for accuracy, trends, and potential operational issues.
  • Supports the Customer Service team in providing key operational information.

 

Qualifications / Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualifications include high school diploma, or equivalent, with a minimum 3 years of experience or training related to the job.  Requires good communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to operate, two way five- channel scanning radio system, phone systems, personal computers and familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel and Access or other database tools. The proven ability to handle difficult decisions in critical time periods and communicate calmly, factually, and effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

 Meet or exceed requirements for Bus Operator and be able to perform any duties required of an Operator. Knowledge of Coach, Low Floor, and Cutaway Buses.
